| Tuesday 17 October We intended to have taken the dogcart to St David`s but the morning was rainy and the roads bad,.... We started at 8 o`clock in a warm drizzle. People were pouring into Haverford West Fair from all the country-side on foot and horseback, in traps carts and waggons... Droves of black cattle and sheep were pouring along the muddy roads. Most of the men wore blue coats and the women long blue cloaks.
